SVRPS-NLB, EARM-NLB & TETC - History Timeline: 1968 to 2018
Part 1: 1968 to 1993 - The First 25 Years
1968:
The Stour Valley Railway Preservation Society (SVRPS), is initially formed.
1969:
The SVRPS, establishes itself at Chappel & Wakes Colne Station, near Colchester, Essex.
Early 1971:
The Enfield Transport Circle's (TETC), first predecessor organisation, is formed, and starts monthly meetings (second Monday of the month) at the William IV, Public House, Hertford Road, Edmonton. It becomes an affiliate of the SVRPS, and is called the Stour Valley Railway Preservation Society-North London Branch (SVRPS-NLB). The first Hon. Branch Secretary is Mr. B. Ames of Southgate, London. The Branch joins a network of branches (approximately eight), which are spread around the Eastern Region of England - who support the main SVRPS group at Chappel.
Late 1971:
The SVRPS-NLB, relocates from the William IV, Public House, Hertford Road, Edmonton, to the Kings Hall, located behind the Kings Head, Public House, Hertford Road, Edmonton. There is a change of Hon. Branch Secretary from Mr. B. Ames of Southgate, London, to Mr. C. Meyer of Cheshunt, Herts., but the monthly meetings continue on the second Monday of the month.
1973:
The SVRPS-NLB, relocates from the Kings Hall, Hertford Road, Edmonton, to the Charles Lamb Institute, Church Street, Edmonton. Monthly meetings continue, but have a change of day, to the second Wednesday of the month. This relocation is prompted, by the impending demolition of the Kings Hall, together with the Kings Head Public House - for a major redevelopment of the Edmonton Green Area, including the building of the Edmonton Green Shopping Centre.
1975:
The SVRPS-NLB, relocates from the Charles Lamb Institute, Church Street, Edmonton, to The Falcon, Public House, South Street, Ponders End. There is a change of Hon. Branch Secretary, from Mr. C. Meyer of Cheshunt, Herts., to Mr. I. Thompson of Enfield. Monthly meetings continue, but have a change of day, to the second Thursday of the month.
1984:
The SVRPS-NLB has a change of Committee line-up: Mr. W. Aston of Enfield, becomes Hon. Branch Chairman, Mr. B. Santer of Upminster, becomes Hon. Branch Treasurer & Deputy Chairman, whilst Mr. I. Thompson, remains as Hon. Branch Secretary.
1986:
The SVRPS at Chappel, changes their name to the East Anglian Railway Museum (EARM).
The SVRPS-NLB, relocates from The Falcon, Public House, South Street, Ponders End, to the Drill Hall Sports Club, Old Park Avenue, Enfield. Monthly meetings continue, but have a change of day, to the first Tuesday of the month.
1991:
The EARM at Chappel, obtains charity status.
The Enfield Transport Circle's (TETC), second predecessor organisation, is formed. The SVRPS-NLB is re-named the East Anglian Railway Museum-North London Branch (EARM-NLB).
